If you don’t understand something search for in on Youtube, giant letters, Notredame (Paris), Luca Rossi 2021
Gilles Deleuze said that we don’t need to express ourselves anymore, we do it too much.
We need interstices of solitude and silence to finally say something true.
The “Ruangrupa” project was conceived as a clandestine project for Documenta 2022, Venice Biennale 2022, New Museum Triennial 2021 and Shanghai Biennale 2021. The project has as its theme the need to “train new eyes” and rethink the traditional artistic institution. The project will be promoted through a strong global indexing and promotion campaign. Any artist can request to participate by writing to email@example.com
To support the promotion campaign at a global level, a self-financing campaign is active in which you can participate by purchasing a unique artwork by Luca Rossi for $ 100: the artwork will arrive directly at your home in an empty envelope: just open the envelope to get the artwork. The artwork you will receive will have as protagonists the first 4 numbers of your mobile phone and will be the gateway to a sort of contemporary “Sistine Chapel” in daily change.
No Italian artist is present at the New Museum Triennale (2021) and at the Shanghai Biennale (2021). In recent times, these major international projects have been characterized by an overload of artworks and artists from which hardly anything can remain. For this reason, “being outside” and excluded from these projects can become a stimulating and interesting opportunity to rethink the role of artist, the nature of the artwork and the idea of a conventional art institution.
Documenta 2022, like usually Venice Biennale (2022), still seems to become the good conscience of the art world: the intentions seem to be those of a political party: values of collectivity, generosity, humor, trust, independence, curiosity, endurance, regeneration, transparency, sufficiency, and connectivity between a multiplicity of locales, rendering them planetary as a result. So why not make a global “political party” instead of a contemporary art exhibition? The alleged uselessness of art is saved with political and social intentions that always remain a form of representation for its own sake. Why?
What a dentist, a bricklayer or a lawyer, can do to save the world is to do his profession well, certainly not necessarily deal with politics. Especially today when the most important political space is represented by our private dimension: our choice in this dimension is worth 10-20 times the choice of a Head of State.
And so we talk about art: if modern art sought the innovative principle (es Warhol) and the post-modern the original remix (es. JR), since 2001 we are in the altermodern world: the content loses relevance in favor of a virtuous system to manage the contents.
On this page you can buy an altermodern art piece by Luca Rossi: the gateway to a sort of Sistine Chapel that allows us to train new eyes. As you can see in this video, each work is unique and is certified with the shipping address and the first 4 numbers of your mobile phone. > CRITICISM, THE FIGHT, THE FUTURE: LUCA ROSSI
In the Italian contemporary art scene there is a figure of considerable interest. Luca Rossi–artist/ collective, critic, curator, and blogger–is a controversial personality who works in anonymity, as some kind of Anonymous of the Art System. In Luca Rossi’s philosophy, the ego no longer exists because anyone can be Luca Rossi, at the same time that the “critical process”, the virtual space of the Internet, and the real context no longer have boundaries and blend into one. Scroll down this page.
Today individuals experience a sort of “non-experience” in the sense that they spend most of their time surfing the “network”, producing a “new memory-without memory” or a “passive and a-critical assimilation” into the system. Luca Rossi knows this well. He constantly reminds us of the history of art and ideas, of our past, of what it means to be critical and active, struggling to preserve one’s own authenticity and originality in the great McDonald that is our contemporary world.
Many curators and artists, both in Italy and Europe, have been following Luca’s work with great excitement. By now Luca is considered the only critical voice that “stands out” in the current Italian landscape.
It is worrisome that Luca’s work has yet to be recognized by institutions and organizations, despite receiving the acknowledgement of the public and many curators and artists. This says a lot about what the value that the Italian system places on the “real artist”. The Italian contemporary landscape has been dragging itself down for more than 10 years, producing artists who “copy and paste”, endless repetitions of projects signed by the same names, and decreeing the end of contemporary art.
Luca Rossi is an independent author for which anyone can be “Luca Rossi”. In this way everyone is stimulated to a new sense of opportunity and responsibility. Luca Rossi started the blog Whitehouse as a platform for art criticism, information, and art-related projects in 2009. A better synthesis of the blog could be found on : www.lucarossilab.it. Major representatives of the art world have participated in the blog, contributing to its popularity. Luca Rossi has written in social networks and specialized magazines like “Flash Art”, Artribune.com, and Exibart.com with lucid criticism and originality.
Luca Rossi was defined “the most interesting personality” in Italy by Fabio Cavallucci, and “the new Vanessa Beecroft” by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio. In 2011 Alfredo Cramerotti (curator of “Manifesta” and Museum Director Mostyn, Wales) wrote: “To be honest, I’m not Roberta (a 2011 project by Luca Rossi) made me think more than dozens of other projects I have seen “live”.

In 2017 this great writing was made in Val Badia in the heart of the Dolomites. Also in this case the artwork experiences a subtle ambiguity between the digital and analogical world. This work is the only access to a growing list of videos uploaded to YouTube every day with the file name: IMG + 4 numbers. This artwork is immobile but changes every day. In addition to representing the complexity of our time, it represents a form of resistance to the internet algorithm that offers us contents “equal to ourselves”. The work gives access to completely unexpected videos list that represent a sort of contemporary “Sistine Chapel”.

A series of sculptures made by Luca Rossi by the fingertips of the left hand. This one at the Tate Modern(London). The fingertips are widely used in the digital age but at the same time they go to draw the wall of our “cave”, our private sphere, represented by Apple’s tactile mouse. They are “very fast” works because they are always in the same place and at the same time as the visitor, but also inexorably immobile. The sculptures maintain an ambiguous balance between the digital and analogical world, between speed and immobility.
7800> traveling action in Trentino forests, social communication campaign, Luca Rossi 2018.
The title of this project, “7800”, suggests an imagined altitude but also a year of the future.
The project, designed for Manifesta 12, celebrates the Voodoo, the oldest religion in the world, and involves 7800 Africans participating in a large collective ritual in the woods of Trentino. This ritual will take place every day at dusk for an indefinite time. The location of the ritual, however, remains unknown: we only know that it will take place somewhere in the sacred spaces of the woods of Trentino (20th – 28 th July 2018).
The ritual entails a collective prayer in the hope that something significant will happen: a sign, or a series of coincidences, that can tell us something about the present and the future of Europe. What will happen will be documented on this same page.
Every day the 7800 people involved in the project perform a Voodoo ritual that has been integrated and contaminated with foreign elements, including the use of dried sage, the oil of Hypericum, elements of the Shinto religion, and a Christian prayer that the artist, creator of the project, learned as a child.
Can the large migratory flows affecting Europe become a wealth? Can they help us rediscover the primordial relationship with our soul and with our earth?

During the visit to the Prada Foundation in Venice, air conditioners look like big black screens. These “screens”, inexorably turned off, seem to be an oasis of solitude and silence within the official exhibition presented by the Foundation. Visitors are invited to place their mobile phones, with the video camera facing down, on the grids of these black monoliths and press REC. By moving the phone as desired on this surface the “black screens” become guardians for a direction that investigates a mysterious and dystopic scenario.

The project consists of a large environmental installation where seven giant letters are mounted on the famous skyline of San Gimignano in Italy. The acronym refers to the 30 years of activity of the Galleria Continua and the five locations of the gallery around the world. But after IMG any combination of numbers can work. In fact, thousands of videos are made every day around the world and uploaded to YouTube without giving them a specific title. This installation, despite being huge and apparently incomprehensible, changes every day and manages to reflect the fluid and precarious complexity of our present. Following the title of the installation also means creating an act of resistance to the Internet algorithm that always tends to offer us content that “we like” because we will arrive at a completely unexpected and different video playlist every day.
